Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Minimally invasive removal of the gall bladder, a small pear-shaped sac that stores and concentrates bile, which is needed for digestion. Higher rates are more desirable.
Incidental appendectomy among elderly
Removal of the appendix at the time of another necessary abdominal surgery. This procedure is performed to eliminate the risk of future appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix). Incidental appendectomy is generally not recommended in the elderly because they have both a lower risk for developing appendicitis and a higher risk of complications after surgery (calculated for patients 65 years or older). Lower rates are more desirable.
Bi-lateral cardiac catheterization
A diagnostic test performed to see if the blood vessels to the heart are narrowed or blocked. Lower rates are more desirable.
